Rocky River

We have just been camping on the Rocky River for a few days. On the way we stopped and met some natural learning families for a play at the beach. One of the Dads made this sand sculpture and an awesome sand castle with the kids.

The home school play went for hours and turned into an impromptu fish and chips dinner at the beach. The kids had so much fun playing and Rain finally met another unschooling girl her own age! And I got to spend some time with the beautiful majikfaerie :)

We then headed west a couple of hours to the site where the Rainbow Corroboree is to be held this coming weekend. It is a beautiful sacred site. We camped right on the banks of the river and went swimming every day.

Mr T found this tree with a perfect hammock ready made from the vines growing in the tree.

I finished another pair of crocheted pants. Tui had to model them for me. Inspired by the corroboree I did this pair in Aboriginal colours.

Here's a pic of crocheting the elastic waist on. Sorry it's not very clear. I use double crochet and crochet around the elastic and through the spaces between the trs in the previous row.

Also had the time to finish a little pair of Rasta coloured pants.

Now we are back home for a while, I'd really love to go back down next weekend for the main corroboree but will ave to see how things turn out.

A little trip

We're off on a little camping holiday tomorrow. I'm so excited, it seems like ages since we have gone away. The kids ae all excited too.
And being organized for once I've even got around to making up a "car bag". What's a car bag I hear you asking???
A bag that I put suggestion for games in, tokens for treats, jokes and mazes and puzzles that I print off. Every time I've actually gotten around to doing this the car trip has gone soooooo much smoother.

See you all next week :)))

Camping

We went camping last week.
The kids made an interesting rope swing.

The view from the tent door...beautiful forest.

Relaxing in camp.

I love camp fires, I love the taste of the food cooked on them and sitting around at night watching the flames and talking.

Mr T tried out his new fishing rod. He didn't catch anything and was a bit disappointed but we are going fishing this afternoon so maybe he'll catch something then.

Tui took her boomerang out to try to knock out some fish...lol

The only downside were the mozzies and marsh flies, my legs look like I've got the measles.

We're back...

We had a wonderful time camping. I really enjoyed some quality time together without any distractions, TV and no house work (that might have to be my favourite bit of camping!)

We didn't go far, just an hour from home, north to Glastonbury Creek Camping area in the Brooyar State Forest.

It's a beautiful spot and wasn't busy. And best of all dogs ARE allowed! So Xena came with us and we didn't have to worry about dog sitters.

The kids had a go at gold panning (we didn't find enough to get rich but we found some nice stones.) This led to an impromptu lesson about gold mining and history and I've promised to take the children back up to Gympie in a couple of weeks to the gold mining museum.

We went bush walking and swimming relaxed around camp. Tui loved having everyone living at her level.

Rain and Zan cooked lots of meals on the fire while I lazed around.

MB was estatic to check out the local abseiling/ rock climbing cliffs. There are 36 climbs and it's a beautiful rock formation, a huge escsrpment over looking a beautiful valley.

The layers in the rocks led to another school lesson for the children about Geology and history.

Mb found me a little piece of rose quartz in the rock wall...the stone of love.

Although after a bit too much 'teacherliness' from me they kids decided to tape me up and gag me with gaffer tape.

This morning on our way home we went for a quick climb...we ended up staying a couple of hours.

It was the first climb I've done in years and it was soooo much fun! We'll be going again soon.

And I saw some beautiful trees...

But we are all nicely tired out now and glad to be home.

We're going camping.

I love camping! today we're going camping for the first time in over a year. We used to go more often but with work, kids, being busy we just don't get around to it as often now. Wow there sure is a lot to pack when camping with six people.

We've found a spot that lets you take dogs so we don't have to find a dog sitter. Mr T is so excited. He's been asking since we woke up when we are leaving.

See you all in a couple of days.
